As my parents are devotees of Ganpati, it was natural that as a child I worshipped Lord Ganesha. Every year during Ganesh Chauthurthi we went to Sangli to perform puja.
I stopped praying to God only once, when things in my life took a negative turn. I had a heart-to-heart talk with HIm. I said to Him: ‘if you give me what I want, I will know you exist’.
I was amazed. God answered my prayers. I got married to the man I loved. After that I have never asked anything from Him again.
My faith has been restored. He has given me everything I ever wanted. He has blessed me abundantly.
I pray everyday, but I do not follow any ritual as such, nor do I go to a temple regularly. I do, however, believe in watering tulsi everyday. I have been doing so for years now. I also make it a point to visit the Sanyas ashram temple in Vile Parle on my wedding anniversary and my children’s birthdays. This temple is very special to me as I and got married here. I like to take my children there as I began a new life from there.
I am not superstitious at all, nor do I believe in wearing stones. I strongly believe that one should have faith in his or her abilities. If one pursues something with single-minded devotion and focuses on the goal, one will attain success.
Nothing can be achieved without enough effort. If God closes one door, he opens the other. Faith in God has helped me to deal with problems in a different way. They appear miniscule now. I am trying to inculcate the same in my children.
I occasionally go on a fast, as my husband is a Jain and the family fasts during certain days in a year. Fasting cleanses the system and teaches us self-control.
I believe that God is inside each one of us. He is part of us. I also believe that there is one God and in the name of religion, people should not kill each other. People should learn to think clearly for themselves. That is what makes us different from animals.
